As we were approaching this yard by the church – a man told us
” THIS IS WHERE JIMMY HOFFA IS BURIED”! LOL
So our walk along the riverfront in Conway, S.C. started!
Along our way – we came across a Christmas shop and a mailbox – “LETTERS TO SANTA”!
The walk along the river is a boardwalk and I would guess goes for a half mile or more!
Along the way are many PHOTO OPTS – and time for reflections.
Swings for sitting and watching the World go by!
A couple marinas – and lots of old-growth Oak Trees!
Halloween decorations abound – besides the main street of Conway.
The whole boardwalk looks like this – many places to stop and see fishermen in the water – although the water looks deep black from the Cypress trees!
Many decorations hang from trees – Halloween is the theme of Conway, S.C.!
A beautiful green park awaits you at the end of the boardwalk – and a boat harbor and entrance to the river.

FOUR FRIENDS – ABOUT TO ENTER THE RIVERWALK!
One of my trials and tribulations – I am terrible at putting!
We got together on Sunday afternoon to golf at Colonial Charters Golf Course –
Which was our first time there.
It was a narrow but fun course and we golfed with our close friends – Buck and Cindy!
Cindy – Sherry and Buck – live at Magnolia Greens Golf Course in Leland, N.C.
about 33 miles from us.
We have been friends since the late 80’s.
Neighbors before they moved South some 6 or 7 years before we did.
Buck teeing off – we generally play a scramble – this day we shot a 38-40 – for a 78 – good for us.
Our first time playing this course and it was both challenging and fun.
We all have what is called THE FIRST TEE – which gives us a discount on 52 different courses!

SUNDAY AFTERNOON GOLF WITH FRIENDS! PAPA’S WORLD – LIVING OUR DREAMS!
We traveled back to NVA for two weeks to spend time with family.
Little Cassidy would zoom often and give her MORMOR the countdown in days and sleeps!
We gathered the day of Christmas to all celebrate together – dinner – presents – games.
A celebration with Marcus’s family – dinner and gift opening – white elephant gift!
I thought two weeks would be a long time – but it went by really quick – family time!
Her father made one for family members – we also have one at our house.
We brought the pine combs with us picking them off the ground in Cameron Woods –
the three little ones decorated them into small Christmas trees!
Our family is into health – nutrition – exercising – walking running – for the past sixteen years!

Being married for 41 plus years and together for 43 years – you have to have a sense of humor –
which both of us have! LOL!!!!!
We dated for over a year before the engagement led to the wedding on 6-25-1982!
We had no money – both divorced – her two daughters – me two sons – who stayed with their mother.
A lot of road traveling in the early years to share custody both ways.
Our wedding day was on June 25, 1982.
We lived way out in the country – farmland all around us – very private – about two acres of grass to mow and the driveway was 1/10 of a mile long – that had to be mowed 8 feet on either side by hand that first Summer!
Debby – Sherry’s eldest – and Sherry’s father – Bill – first granddaughter of his to be married!
Today Debby has three daughters – Maddy – 23 – Ella – 20 and Sarah 17 –
Mike and Debby have been married for 28 years –
Her father Bill was like a second father to me as I lost my own father when I was 19.
Here we are with five granddaughters – taken before the only grandson – Bode.
Sarah – Maddy – Ella – Cassidy and Taylor – before they could walk.
Today Bode and his mother Tammy – Bode is nine years old.

In our SENIOR years – things to do – go to the museum and learn the history of OIB and Sunset Beach!
That is exactly what we did – learning that Native Americans were here hundreds if not thousands of years before the first explorers came!
And they inhabited what is now called SEA TRAIL – where today three golf courses and homes for thousands of people!
After all this, we walked out to the parking lot and were met with this sky!
Sherry is walking to the car – beyond is the park where live entertainment is on the stage for the Summer concert series.
Beyond that are restrooms – splash-pad – playground and they are building a basketball court –
pickleball courts and a covered picnic area.

We have been planning this for months – both sons will visit at the same time with their loved ones!
Papa – Troy the oldest – Andrea his partner – Sherry – Trisha and Shawn my youngest and his stepdaughter Autumn on the pier at Sunset Beach.
We moved South to NVA in 1999 – both boys stayed in NWPA.
They still work and live there.
It took them 14 1/2 hours to drive down to our new home in Cameron Woods, Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.
They spent a whole week with us – beach time – exploring nature walks – Boardwalk On The Beach and
Barefoot Landing.

Our oldest granddaughter – Maddy – graduated from the University of Lynchburg with a degree in Environment Science – and played four years of soccer – As a Sophomore was third-team all-conference – Junior second-team all-conference and as a Senior Captain of the team –
Two out of four years they made it to the NCAA tournament!

We are four miles to one beach and six miles to another beach.
Here we are with a neighbor on Sunset Beach – relaxing in the sun on a weekday – living what locals call THE SALT LIFE!
We found this little piece of paradise – where the temps are moderate during FALL – WINTER and SPRING!
It can and is HOT in the summer – but we find the ocean – with a breeze – more than comfortable.
5 to 10 minutes and we are sitting on the sand!
The beach was a major factor in choosing this area – but also – love to golf!
We are within thirty minutes of over 30 golf courses!
Four of them are right across the street!
We can choose whatever we want to play!
Now – we are not all that good – but being out in the open on the golf course is what we love.
We have purchased what is called the first tee – which gives us major breaks in what we pay each 18 holes!
32 different courses – just call up and make an afternoon tee time!
We like playing afternoons as most people like to play before noon!
Major shopping – outlets and big box stores – are only a thirty-minute drive for us down Myrtle Beach.

As we were walking to go to the Bus Comedy Tour – we came across THE BUNKUM STONE and this plaque explaining what it was and I found it interesting!

Today’s cost – I guess somewhere North of $200 million!

PAPA’S WORLD – THE BILTMORE ESTATE!!!!!! ASHVILLE, N.C.
Our little family picture about 12 years ago – since this picture – our grandson Bode was born and today is 8 years old!
We are also retired now – moving from NVA to the border of N.C. and S.C.
We now are in our retirement house – about four miles from the beach.
My sons from my first marriage and their partners – on the Sunset Beach Pier.
They remain in NWPA where they grew up – we transferred to NVA for our jobs and they stayed behind.
Today they work in the energy field of state and power companies winterizing homes for the elderly.
We live our lives one day at a time to the fullest we can manage. Retirement has been good to us and the weather here is what we like.
Bode – who is following in the footsteps of his older cousins playing soccer – I hope one day to follow him in college like we do with his cousins.

We are living our dream – living on the N.C -S.C. border – close to so many really fine golf courses!
Our close friends live 35 minutes away and we get together often – golf and dinner.
We are so close to a couple beaches – 15 minutes and we are on the sand at either one.
We get to watch the change over every weekend – much as we did in our younger years when we vacationed at the beach – now we live it every day.
The footprints disappear only to be made over and over again each day.
No more snow and ice – yes it does get cold – but by midday, it is bearable to be out and about.
Living life one day at a time!
We have now watched our oldest granddaughter graduate from college – sad that soccer has ended with her – but happy that it continues with her sister in her junior year at college.
We have volunteered at the memory care unit and now the SEA TURTLE PROTECTION program for N.C.

They have been excited for about two months – our three grandkids – Bode – Taylor and Cassidy –
knowing that when they come home with us to stay two weeks – that Sherry’s sister will also
have her Two Granddaughters! Oliva and Maya.
They met them a few months ago – and it was friends at first sight!
All FIVE of them to the left – the four girls – Cassidy – Taylor – Oliva – Bode and then Maya going into the water.
We have activities planned for them each day for five days.
The weather is warm – here we took them to the beach at early dusk – the water is really warm
and while a few people on the beach – it was nice to sit back and enjoy the sunset.
There was a Sea Turtle nest nearby and we got to talk to the people – while the grandkids were walking the surf –
The first day was a success – they swam for an hour in our community pool –
love it when things come together –

The storm was building while we were there at the beginning of 7PM.
The clouds drifted in and you could see the front coming from the West.
Because of how the coastline curves – OIB almost faces South!
The sky to the North West was getting dark.
The clouds are moving in and behind them in the distance is lightning!
View down the beach toward the West end – the wind picked up and radar showed lightning strikes some 13 to 15 miles away!
Sherry still talking to folks but we were watching the weather on our phones!
Around 9PM. the team leader said it was time to go – so we picked up – packed everything up and got the trench smooth in case they hatched when no one was there!
Safety first – be off the beach if lightning strikes are within 10 miles!

The Work for protected SEA TURTLES is authorized by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission
PEERMIT ST020232
A nest on OIB – Sherry and I have committed to walking the beach and she committed to sit and observe the nest until hatching.
This involved TEN TEAM MEMBERS who started on a specific day of the nest being laid –
They go down at 7PM. and stay until 11PM each night until they hatch.
Each member is given a task to perform upon arrival and during the hatching.
This must be performed each night – and the nest is checked each morning by the ATV-GATOR patrol
and daily checked by the OIB police patrol.
When the walkers observe a Turtle having come ashore through the gigantic crawl tracts –
A verification occurs and a team will ready the nest by adding protection and roped off.
This is all done by volunteers – there also is fast response teams and relocation teams
in event the nest is in a dangerous area of survival, and it is moved very carefully.
Predators are watched for and everything for the hatching is provided to insure safe passage to the ocean.

A group of neighbors met at the clubhouse to celebrate the 4th. of July.
A couple neighbors precooked hot dogs while others brought dishes to pass –
the screened room off the pool offered shade –
Everyone pitched in and a good time was had by all.
Tables and food and decorations – and following are pictures of the neighborhood get-together.
A little music and some fun dancing.
65 to 70 neighbors came to enjoy one another company – name tags so we could all get to know one another.
We do have a few children in the community – and of course, they went into the pool to cool off!

It has gotten HOT – 90 plus degrees – high humidity – no rains – BEACH TIME!
We do our morning Turtle Beach Patrol at 6am.
We also pick up garbage on the beach – and are done between 7 and 7:30 am.
We decided to go back home and return by 8:30 for a couple hours of early morning beach time before it gets really hot!
No one is here at that time in the morning – and walking down to the pier and beyond in the surf – the water was warm – our dream-salt life!
Looking in the other direction you can see hardly anyone is here! SOLITUDE!

These are her early years – before I met her in 1979 – 1980. at work for A.O.T.C. in Olean, N.Y.

We went to The Links at Bricklanding – on the ICW before the course after two holes go to the other side of the highway and you play along the marsh.
Craig and Jim get ready to hit – the ICW is on the right side and the ponds are on the left side.
Up by the green is another pond and the fairway is only 30 yards wide!
We started out and played a scramble as did the ladies.
This course eats up golf balls – and it did this day!
We get together every so often to play a scramble – Gals vs. Guys
The last one the guys one by one stroke and they missed a putt on the last hole to tie!
Dottie and Debbie – both live in Va. Beach – Dottie has been my friend for over 44 years!
Dottie and Debbie became friends when Dottie and Jim moved to Va. Beach.
Sherry and Cindy – Buck and Cindy have been our friends for over 35 years – we were neighbors
back in WNY – They moved to Magnolia Greens 26 years ago and we moved to NVA.
We have stayed friends all these years and now live 38 miles from them after moving to OIB in N.C.
Debbie – Dottie – Cindy and Sherry – while we beat them heads up – with the strokes –
they won the match – and I told the guys – NO MORE STROKES – they are too good!

LIVING OUR LIVES TO THE PLUS ONE DAY AT A TIME! ONE MORE BIRTHDAY AND MANY MORE TO COME!
We dated a little over a year before we got engaged and then a year later married.
We both were married before – she had two daughters – I had two sons – and we had each other.
We lived way out in the country – the driveway was 1/10th of a mile long –
great in winter to sled ride.
That first year I mowed everything by hand – it took five days!
And then – rest for two and start over again – we bought a riding mower!
Those early years were lean years – combining two sets of kids –
running back and forth – very little extra money –
but we survived and to this day look back fondly on all those times.
We would pack breakfast – lunch, and dinners – take adventures –
the kids loved it.
Camping – in tents – visiting friends.
Marriages – moving – college – our family was just the two of us.
The kids were gone – we had moved from the country and into town.
Now – the house was empty and we had the opportunity to transfer to NVA.
We bought and sold three houses in NVA.
My sons stayed in Pa.
But – it seemed like the extended family all moved to NVA.
The family stayed in Pa. and Va. – her sister is building a small condo near us.
The family has visited us many times – my sons are coming end of summer.

I once was a pirate – yo – ho – ho!
My first mate – she makes a beautiful pirate!
We both live our lives to this practice!

Now we live our dream by the beach – no more being a pirate – today we are living our dream!

Sherry’s mother and father – Barb and Bill – and her two sisters – Bonnie and Debbie.
Barb was always laughing – smiling – a beautiful woman – constantly cleaning – everything in its place.
Bill made furniture in his spare time and wholly remodeled their home – always fixing things –
He was like a second father – my father passed away when I was 19.
He taught me how to stain without any impurities in the finish and he was a great finish carpenter.
Barb was the rock in the church – leading the way for Sherry in later life.
Mary as she was known to everyone – would honk their horns whenever they passed the house on North Main Street in Eldred, Pa.
People would pull over to come to the porch to talk to her – my sister’s friends and my two brother’s friends
and my friends – even after we had moved out and away – always came by to talk to her.
All my life growing up our home was open to all of them.
She was almost 98 when she passed away – and had her memory and was still walking with help.
My older brother Roger – made the trip to our home and later to Winchester, Va. to Debby’s home where this picture was taken in the backyard.
Growing up he was ten years older than me.
He was my hero – leaving to go to college when I was 8 years old and later into the Navy.
He lived out his remaining years in The Villages, Florida – where we would come down to be with him in the winter.
He wanted us to move down there with him – he had bought his plane tickets shortly before he passed away to come back and stay with us for a while.
A 4 or 6 handicapper in golf – he tried to coach me but it was like showing an old dog new tricks! LOL
My sister Donna – Papa – Mary – Bill – Roger – my sister – mother – brother-in-law, and brother.
I am the only one left – my younger brother Mike passed away a long time before this picture.
This was on my mother’s front porch where everyone would stop to talk to her –
She was also known throughout town for her homemade baked goods –
Taking baked goods to the doctors and dentists.
Small – good-humored and smiles but also feisty!
Each and every one of them was like this – miss them all – memories of the early years!

PAPA and ELLA – now a junior in college! YEARS GONE BY – FAMILY AND FRIENDS – PAPA’S WORLD.
Good day everyone – in late afternoon after being out and about – a neighbor posted she had an Eagle sitting up in a dead tree just up the street!
So we drove past our home and went to the end of the street and sure enough – the EAGLE was there!
We have seen Eagles here and in the surrounding areas since moving here.
What a magnificent bird!
This is one I can tell – it was only a few days ago! LOL
We have signed up for TURTLE WATCH BEACH PATROL!
We are on the beach by 6:00 AM.
We have an area a little over one mile one way in an East Direction and have to look for Turtle tracks or crawl!
We have instructions and numbers to call and we also watch for beach erosion and record and take pictures of it and let them know right away.
Sherry and another walker – we have orange shirts with Turtle Patrol on them to identify who we are – along with a parking pass in case our car is checked by the police.
We can not park illegally and must obey all laws.
Notice the bag – we also collect garbage and trash on the beach.

SOME HUMOR AND FACTS IN OUR LIFE!
living the SALT LIFE – taking JUICE PLUS – SIXTEEN YEARS NOW!
74 years old and still going strong!
John was a decorated WWII hero – with the purple heart and numerous other medals.
He captured a castle and a Nazi officer out of uniform – there is a story in a military journal
that is in the WWII museum in Eldred Pa.that chronicles that event.
He took from that officer a automatic machine gun pistol – vintage WWI – that also resides in the museum
and is worth upwards in the thousands of dollars. They keep it locked away as it is so valuable.
He was wounded several times and went back into action.
Bill was a vet of the forgotten war – Korea – he seldom talked about it but while I was growing up –
he gave to me his sleeping bag that he used in the cold winters there.
I admire his stamina as all it was is a wool blanket inside a canvas liner!
I would get very cold while sleeping outside on the ground in it!
He was more to me than a brother in law – he was my friend and like a brother to me.
One time I was out with him on patrol in the cop car – he was the town cop –
We drove down across the tracks and out past the old pipe building –
he saw a woodchuck and said to me –
“Do I get him”?
“Sure I said”!
He pulled out his gun and from the front seat shot that old woodchuck –
I almost went deaf from that gun going off!
I said ” JESUS CHRIST BILL” and then we both just burst out laughing!
Lesson – never fire a gun from inside a car – you can barely hear for like 10 minutes!
Mom was known all over the town and county and into NYS for her baking.
She would bake rolls – bread – pies and cakes. Sweet rolls and sticky buns.
There was not anything she could not knead and bake and all from memory!
She did not need a receipt – she just did it after almost 85 years of her life baking!
She baked as a child learning from her mother who passed at 85 years old.
Mom was next to the youngest of 11 kids and was almost 98 years old when she passed.
She supplied pies and cakes and rolls for a diner in town.
Or she would say ” You are as useless as teats on a boar hog”! She had me in stitches –
she also played the accordion my father the spoons and sang and my uncle jack the wash board.
They would do this at family picnics and if the beer was free – at social events.
When she was young – she traveled with my grandma in the logging camps of Pa.
Making breakfast – lunch and dinner as a way to make money in the depression.
They were together until he passed away at age 81.
She called him “JOHNNY BOY” and he was so good to her – just what she needed after ten years losing my dad.
He could fix anything and construction was his forte.
His cars and trucks immaculate even though they were ten years old – showroom condition.
He fixed up and remodled the house which she had kept going all those years .
That same house today is still in the family after almost 78 years –
my great niece lives there today.

We have a walking group that meets every Monday and Friday at the park across the street. You walk at your own pace and usually do two complete loops – just over a mile each and then once around the track.
This in total would be 2.30 miles!
Then during the day, we will get in the rest of our 10,000 steps – my heart doctor has told me just to “MOVE”!
Growing up in the 50s-60s and 70s – the generations that wanted love and peace – still has a place in my heart today!
We have adopted a healthy choice lifestyle – I do not drink soda or milk anymore – or fast food!
We live just a few miles from the beach – often going there for our walks – sun – sand, and surf!
We try to golf once a week or every other week – usually with dear friends of 35 years.
Just being out in nature – and yes – we get STEPS in that way!
Our dear friends – golfing – having dinner together and making plans for fun trips!

Our grandaughter Taylor with her mother – soon to be a teenager – she has grown up riding horses!
A beautiful young lady to be – she would clean stalls and groom horses every day if she could!
It all began with her – she could barely walk – yet she knew what she wanted and today she rides so gracefully – here her mother helps to steady her on her first ride!
Now she is a regular at the riding stable and volunteers to groom and take care of the horse’s stalls!
Tall in the saddle – little Taylor does not need any help – becoming an accomplished rider.
Her dream is to someday own her own horse – she is so graceful and an easy learner.

The courses are known in the area as THE BIG CATS courses as they all have names of the big cats of the world.

Buck and I have been friends for almost 40 years.
Today he is my golfing partner – we play the girls in a scramble and they usually beat us!

Our married life began on June 25th. 1982 in a little town in WNY – called Portville!
We both worked for the American Olean Tile Company in Olean, New York.
We combined two sets of children – my two sons and her two daughters – although my sons lived with their mother.
We traveled with all four on vacations and weekend events.
Troy – my oldest son and Shawn my youngest – both still live back in NWPA where we all are from and raised.
They have been down to visit last summer and hoping they come once again.
Our lives with our family are so important – and hoping all will visit this summer!

Before Bode and when grandkids were young! Taken almost 12 years ago – the twins were not walking then.
After Bode – the twins are now 12 and Bode is 8! Maddy graduates from college and Ella will be a junior in college. Sarah will be a junior in H.S.
