Papa’s World – Conway S.C. – Old Churches and a walk through history!

Sherry walking the historic section of Conway S.C.

We like to explore and I love old towns and history of the area!

We had completed the River Walk and then headed onto main street.

This being Sunday – there were no stores open!

Which surprised me as there were lots of people on the River Walk.

A cool little garden and fountain just off main street!
I assume this mural has a part of the history of this town!

Walking – taking in the sites – and then we both noticed just how many old

historic churches were here!

Maybe that is the reason for stores being closed on Sunday?

This church was too big to get in one photo – and had been built in the 1800’s!
The first view you get of this church walking up to it – the previous picture was the center of the church!
The right side of the church – this church took up almost the entire block!

We also looked at the first church that was built here

Thinking that the people had outgrown it!

The first church built in the early 1800’s!

A beautiful stain glassed window!

Thsi was a very solid built building

but I think it ended up being too small

So they constructed the second church!

I want to go back and spend more time reading the grave stones!

We also walked by one other large church that sat on the river-

and had drive up docks for boats

and signs for people who came to church using the River!

This was also as large as the big one here.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

we will go back someday and explore more

and will make sure the stores are open!

I love these large old Oak trees!

Papa’s World – Visiting Georgetown SC with friends

John – Sherry – Nancy – Papa. on the docks of Georgetown.

This was a first visit – really had never heard of it!

And it is quaint – historic and fun to walk around.

The streets are over hung with large living Oak trees

they form a canopy over the side streets!

A view from the harbor toward the side streets with the live Oak Trees

We had a lunch here in the BIG TUNA at THE OLD FISH HOUSE!

And I had a house salad with grilled fresh Grouper!

It was very good and tasty!

John and Nancy belonged to our church

and one year ago moved South to Mt. Plesant

just outside of Charleston SC.

They both sang in the choir and John sings opera.

Nancy and Sherry were in a group that was called “THE HENS”!

A group of 7 or 8 ladies who once a week got together

for lunch and a movie.

Now – it is down to 3 or 4 as the others relocated.

But we have stayed in touch with John and Nancy

and visited them on our way back from Florida

Just before the pandemic hit!

We have a lot of same likes and views

and can talk – we all are retired so it makes it fun and easy

to join up and visit – Georgetown was the half way point!

We spent a couple hours – wandering around after lunch

enjoying the warm mid 80’s day.

My kind of weather!

Neither one of us likes the cold.

We spoke of planning another trip

and we will visit them again at their home

and have invited them to visit us in North Myrtle Beach.

Now here is a blast from the past!

PBR – my favorite beer when we lived in Western New York!

Hard to find in the South!

Nancy and Sherry love walking the beach.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World
