Papa’s World – Counting our blessings – a year in review – family – friends!

Christmas 2019 – the start of the year in review!

All the grand kids and their parents with Sherry and myself.

When this picture was taken – the only thing we had planned

was for her 16th. birthday – we would take Ella to Florida with us for a week.

She would go to Hollywood studios to see Star Wars!

When each grand child turns 16 – we do something special with them.

Maddy wanted to swim with the Manatee’s and we did that!

Growing up in the ’60’s – we never imagined taking trips with grandparents – mine were all gone by the time I was 16!

As the year progressed – plans were made and soon – we would leave for one month in Florida.

But first – quality time with the young ones.

I will for the rest of life see this as MORMOR and Taylor – walking hand in hand to church!

Although now she is only ten years old – she comes up to just under Sherry’s chin.

She is going to be very tall and loves horse back riding!

2019 was also the year we had friends from AZ. come to visit – and accomplished crossing off everything on their bucket list to see in DC. This is a reflection of Sherry among the ghosts of the Korean War.

Many friends visited over the 21 years we lived outside D.C.

We acted as tour guides – and in the year past – we toured almost every facility

there was to visit including the Capital Building which was a first for us!

The year in review – blessings will continue in the next blog!

We also venture to outside Raleigh – N.C. to visit her sister.

Here – we went to a farm that had what are called BELTED COWS – GOATS & CHICKENS!

They are white with a black belt around the middle!

Never heard of this and never saw this before!

Standing outside the pen with the goats – chickens and cows at the BELTED FARM!

Papa’s World – The BIG BUS on and off – San Francisco

GOOD MORNING

We decided to tour San Francisco from the top deck of a BIG BUS !

So – we walked across the street from Pier 39 and that is where we boarded

after purchasing our tickets on Pier 39 !

Cindy and Buck

We choose the top even though it was a wee bit cool

and still a little foggy – esp.the Bridge !

Tom and Sherry
staying warm.

The BIG BUS was a on and off stop bus –

if you wanted too !

I think there were 15 or 16 stops !

But – we decided to just sit back and enjoy the whole city tour

and we even were going to ride across

THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE in the open air !!!!!!

Our tour guide

We had a excellent tour guide who was born and raised –

IN SCOTLAND !!!! How about that !

And he new everything about San Francisco

even one time singing the Tony Bennet classic

” I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO “

and he was rather good – in fact great !

At the top of the street
the zig – zag street

It was hard to remember everything

or everyone he told us about

or that building or this building

Haight – Ashbury

Where it all started – The Peace and Love –

of the HIPPIE GENERATION

of which I am proud to say

I was part of even though

my long hair was curly

LIKE CARROT TOP !!!! LOL

So many memories of that generation

PEACE BROTHERS AND SISTERS ! And ” LOVE ” !!!

The courthouse
Tile mosaic
We both worked in the tile field
for a combined almost 80 years !

GREAT MEMORIES

Papas World – Day # 47 – Sheltering – HAIR – HAIR!!

Well – you know it is time when you start scratching your head! LOL!

At least that is what happens to me as my hair gets long!

But – the NOISE from NEWS has me also scratching my head!

It is not like you can go outside and protest – although some have!

And – not keeping SOCIAL DISTANCING!

Since I write – save and schedule a couple weeks in advance

The talk now is some are easing into reopening

while others are jumping in feet first and no masks on their heads!

I do not know how this will unfold –

but I do know that with this as with most other things

It will become ( pardon the expression)

A pissing match and both sides of the aisle

will once again go at each others throats!

Here I am – stuck in the middle

Jokers to the left

Clowns to the right!

But – this is society – always has been

and it seems always will be.

We seem to self destruct and makes you wonder

just how have we managed this for thousands and thousands of years?

So – I write – not knowing what the subject will be!

You see – as I post on face book – every day – I post FIVE THINGS!

To make you smile – to be happy – make you think and provide

a good thought for the rest of your day!

Which – today – I SAVED TO MY BLOG SITE

and Shared them one by one – and not being able to see them clearly

before I share as when saved they are so small I can’t see them!

So – I decided to write as I shared them –

and this blog reflects just that!

I see stories in my mind – I see memories –

I can not explain it – nor do I understand it!

Once again – I share my thoughts

and right now my hair is long –

as always with me – it makes me scratch my head!

But as always I write – I conjure up thoughts

And thank the Lord at my age I can still do this!

Papas World – Day# 44 – I need a haircut – going back to my youth!

My oh my – I told Sherry several weeks ago – you might want to cut my hair!

But then I decided – the heck with it – you see –

back in the late ’60’s and through the ’70’s

I had long hair and rode a motorcycle

Just a freedom of expression.

I was not for the WAR in NAM.

I had friends who were recruited and drafted

and some never made it back.

I also was in a car accident when I was a senior in H.S.

and spent 51 days in the hospital –

not knowing if I would ever walk again.

Me my Senior year

I was never drafted – but I went to work one week after graduation

I had too – and 47 1/2 years later

I retired from that same company.

So – that was my time of having long hair all those years ago

The problem at least in my mind – my hair is natural curley

So – I looked like Carrot Top only light brown!

I was a Toe Head growing up!

Today – it has been almost two months without a haircut

and since I started Juice Plus 14 years ago

my hair grows really fast – so much that to keep it from covering my ears

I get a haircut every four weeks!

So – I am over due by four weeks and today it is

a Silver – curly gray – white and long!

I have no idea how long this will last but I am not going to expose myself

to this horrible virus –

do you know that now it has surpassed ALL other illness’s

including Heart and Cancer to become number one cause of death

in our great country!

And all in seven weeks with Social Distancing and Sheltering

in place!

So – here I am – fast becoming a HIPPIE once again! LOL

Thinking back all those years ago

The wind in my hair as I rode my bike –

That was before mandatory helmets

And – just after that phase – I met my wife to be.

Now today she will see just what she missed or –

not missed – as it was as curly as this picture.

Papas World – As the World turns – so do I!

As we get older – we seem to become more set in our ways!

However – I am from perhaps the most vivid generation to ever exist!

THE 60’s – growing up in both turmoil and a revolution of –

PEACE – LOVE and COLORS!

Of all human life!

We had new music – and new Icons – JFK – MLK – and not so liked –

RMN – on the political horizon.

This was the era of PEACE- LOVE and HOPE –

But also of Guns – Protests – Marches and death.

And – the outcome – my generation won against the above.

War came to a end – the peace sign prevailed –

All colors were accepted by majority –

And RMN who was on the horizon –

was sent packing in disgrace in the 70’s.

The Hippies eventually for the most part – became mainstream

And today – they still flash those Peace signs –

They are older now – walking slowly –

They have experience and growth

They are still teaching generations to Love –

And once again – are standing – standing for democracy.

Now known as also Baby Boomers – casting a eye at the Capital.

Putting back on those tie dyed shirts in their minds.

We had become somewhat “Silent”

But – “WE” are moving once again –

As it was in the 60’s – turmoil has once again raised it’s ugly head.

A generation that lead the nation with protest out of a war

no one wanted –

A generation that evolved with human kind in mind

A generation that promotes Peace – Love & kindness

Yes – we are old – we are set in our ways

We are not entitled – we are not elite –

WE ARE WE – a product of the ’60’s –

As it was said by a Nation at war in the 40’s

You have awoken a sleeping giant –

A giant that walked the streets in the 60’s

One who promotes Love – Peace –

And in my case – God – Family and Church.

Sherry and Tom
a product of the ’60’s

We stand together – as one –

We work behind the scenes to promote humankind

And justice for all is prevailing

You see – all those years ago

We helped usher in a new dawn

And we still to this day

Believe in Peace – Hope – Love

and in our case

Family- Church- Country and that peace sign.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World
