The little guy learned that not hiking is in the mountains like he thought!
Crossing streams or climbing rocks – that is all he had ever done on a hike
Showing him nature – the marsh – water – sand – scrub trees –
He learned that there is more to this Earth – hoping to bring him back
in warm weather as we were told you could see “GATORS” then!
They were excited – walking into the trees on the sand path –
looking for birds – snakes – spiders
hearing the sounds and the marsh views!

We had a fine day to be out and about – so we decided to show them some nature
As they are all about the outdoors!
We went back to Vareen Memorial Gardens –
just before you cross the state line into N.C. in Little River S.C.
Across the marsh and over the tidal canals –
at low tide – does not look so scary when empty!
We entered the trees and brush along a sand pathway – trail.
We had been here a couple times before
bringing family to explore and see the ICW and the beauty of a pristine nature walk.
The girls loved this as did Debby who is all about the outdoors and hiking!
We soon entered the trees and bush growth
it was shaded in here and I think would be welcomed in the S.C. heat of Summer!
One last walkway before entering the pine and cypress trees!
The path is marked – and branches off in all directions!
A shaded walk – can be a couple miles if you select the right path
We choose the shorter route – we had some more places to show them!
WE WILL BE BACK someday we told them!

PAPA’S WORLD – HIKING THROUGH VAREEN MEMORIAL GARDENS WITH FAMILY!
We had visitors for the weekend – from N.C. around three hours away.
Daughter and family of Sherry’s sister.
The little ones were so excited – to finally be able to go somewhere
all due to the pandemic.
We tested – they rested and everything was good.
We only had one full day to explore – so we took them to Vareen Memorial Garden.
To hike and gather shells.
We also hit the beach for a short walk but it was windy and cold.

and to this day – the three older ones still do crafts!
All you have to do is say craft and the go right to the table – no fuss!
The older ones have that same talent – Ella has won awards for her creations.
She teaches them – one at a time – not only crafts – but life itself!

I love this picture – I told Sherry we need to get it blown up and framed!
And – it all happened in a space of two or thee minutes!
Maddy took her phone – while we all just sort of found a place –
put it up and braced it on a tree limb –
set the timer for 6 seconds and “BOOM”
there it was!
We went back to the new trail – but this time – the whole family went!
This family hikes all the time – that is their form of family time together!
Mike will take the older two – Maddy and Ella – overnight hiking!
He would take Sarah – but she is into more like N.Y.City hiking!
She is the one I think really likes it but has aspirations of one day dancing – acting – fashion –
But once you do get her out there – no boundry is off limits – being the free spirit she is!
We made it a family day hiking – where Debby – Sherry and I had gone the day before!
A new trail within the city limits of Winchester Va.
When it is completed – with all the side trails and loops
you pretty much can get a easy five miles in!
This day was somewhat cool but warm in the Sun!
And we made a day of it as long as we could.
Many volunteers keep this project going
helping to clear out brush
and maintaining the cut area’s!
