Papa’s World – Blogs – Thoughts and good times!

We moved here in 2021-

The weather here is much warmer than in NVA or WNY –

Where we first lived.

Also – born and raised in NWPA –

We had a few months of ideal weather and then cold and snow!

Neither one of us enjoys that weather –

We both like to be warm.

Living here can be hot and humid.

You just learn when to go out,

And you can always head to the beach.

There – with the wind and shade –

It is comfortable for us.

Walking the beach with a shade hat on –

The surf on your feet and a breeze-

That is a WHY for us.

Coffee in the morning is a must for me!

Just one cup!

But – I also like a cup of tea-

Nothing in it and only cream in my coffee!

My mother and grandmother drank tea as I was growing up!

Later, Mom drank coffee!

My grandmother introduced me to “COFFEE SOUP”!

Wierd as it sounds –

It was during the DEPRESSION thing.

When hard times came –

She would make and bake bread!

As a way to substitute for other items-

She would slice a thick piece of homemade bread-

Then pour some coffee over it with sugar and milk from the cows.

They called this “COFFEE SOUP” and sometimes some thick bacon.

Which came from raising pigs.

Most everything was done on the farm.

My father would take two slices of homemade white bread –

Butter both pieces –

And cut a thick slice of onion and make –

“BREAD AND BUTTER ONION SANDWICHES” for his lunch pail –

On the oil leases where he was a supervisor!

This also went back to his upbringing during the “DEPRESSION”!

Our way for over twenty years of healthy eating!

THIRTY FRUITS AND VEGETABLES are going directly into the bloodstream from powder capsules.

PAST MEMORIES make me laugh!

This could be a success! LOL!!!

Our front porch –

My place to sit and relax in the shade!

Papa’s World – WNY favorite foods – Beef on Wicks – Potato salad and Coleslaw!

Friends for years and years – Dottie – Jim – Buck – Cindy – Sherry – Papa – food from back home in WNY –

Beef On Wicks – Potato salad – Coleslaw for our New Years’ eve dinner at Magnolia Greens just outside Leland, N.C.

This is a tradition in WNY – thinly sliced beef in juice ( drippings) on Kimelwick rolls!

Horseraddish or hot mustard – and the two salads to go long with it.

You can see the beef-on-wicks on the plate next to Dottie.

Back home in WNY – in Olean, N.Y, is the famous restaurant “BEEF and BARREL” where they have carving stations of huge sides of beef and you tell them how you like it doe and they carve it for you!

We all grew up with this.

These are mouth-watering – and the rolls are salted on top – with seeds – soft rolls and yummy!

A tradition for all of us – our roots in WNY.

Thanks for reading – and yes you can buy all of this at WEGMANS if you have a store close to you – they have gradually worked their way South and we had five of six stores in the NVA area and in Va. Beach area.

After dinner, it was celebrating New Year’s Eve with close friends –
