Papa’s World – When sisters compete on the soccer pitch – one last time – priceless – both captains!

Randolph College – the University of Lynchburg – one a sophomore – the other a senior.

Both colleges are in Lynchburg, Va. Ella is a sophomore, Randolph – and Maddy is a senior.- Lynchburg.

Both start on their teams – Maddy a wing and Ella midfielder.

Sad this most likely will be the last game they play against each other – but as a family – MEMORIES!

Captains meeting midfield – Ella middle on left in white – Maddy on the right – middle in black.

Shaking hands

And then THE HANDSHAKE AMONG SISTERS! MEMORY!
And then the procession out onto the pitch – Number 10 white – Ella and number 13 black – Maddy.

For us as grandparents and as mother and father – there is no winner and no loser !

For the granddaughters – bittersweet as for the second time – Maddy’s team has won.

Ella never came out of the game – and she has now started and played every game as a freshman

and now as a sophomore – the only freshman to accomplish that.

She will be a very good player when it is all said and done.

Maddy is ending her career for a third straight year as a starter.

Lynchburg has gone to the NCAA tournament for 16 straight and won a national title in 2016.

Wearing the same numbers all the way through – youth – travel and HS teams.

Since they both could walk with their father working with them on ball handling and passing – shooting and footwork – they both take the corner kicks for their teams.

Today Ella has grown so tall – almost 5’10”

Maddy will graduate in Engineering Science with now a 3.85 GPA!

No one lost here – proud parents Debby and Mike – the tradition of the family – love of soccer and life.

Thanks for reading PAPA’S WORLD and WHEN SISTERS MEET ON THE SOCCER PITCH!

PAPA’S WORLD – no losers – only WINNERS!

Randolph – wins – 4 losses -1 – ties – 2 Lynchburg – wins – 3 – losses – 1- ties – 4

Papa’s World – Of course – we played pickle ball!

Cindy Jim Dottie Papa

Cindy said “OKAY – WE ARE GOING TO WALMART”!

Okay – what for?

“WE HAVE OUR PICKLE BALL RACQUET’S AND EVERYONE NEEDS ONE!”

So – there you have it – we played Pickle Ball

on the tennis courts which also had

Pickle ball courts in our gated community!

Buck Jim Papa Sherry

When Sherry and I were spending the Winter months

with my brother in the Villages

we played some Pickle ball down there.

So – we had a idea how to play

Keeping score and shouting it out

when you served – well – sometimes that is a challenge

as you move around back and forth

and each side has a number!

It can be a little bit funny seeing seniors yelling out numbers!

And – Cindy had started taking lessons!

But – after some discussing the rules

we started to play – and it became a contest!

This time we split up and no longer guys vs the gals!

Jim Cindy Papa Dottie

We were there for over a hour

in the sun and shade

and it was a fun time!

Now – we were not as nimble as we once were

but we were nimble once as we were once upon a time!

Cindy Jim Buck Dottie Sherry Papa

I guess this may be part of our get together from now on.

Papa & Sherry we won our set vs Jim and Cindy

It was a friendly competition!

A lot of laughs and joking around!

Sherry and I won one set and lost another.

Jim & Buck before Buck took a tumble at which time we called it a day!

It was fun – and we played after our walk on the beach

and before we left for our final golf match

Gals vs. Guys!

Papa and Dottie Pickle ball Champs for seniors!
At least for this senior! LOL

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY

Papa’s World – when we were young – co-ed volleyball!

Sherry and I were married 6-25-82 –

both 33 years old – second marriage for both of us.

I had two sons and she had two daughters.

By that time – I had played basketball for a radio station

and was currently playing softball on two teams.

We decided – I would end the softball

and we would do something together.

There was a volleyball league in our community

It had SIXTEEN TEAMS!

And it was COED!

Now – this was suppose to be REC volleyball

but it wasn’t !

It was highly competitive

and if you were not on your guard

you could end up with a broken nose from a spiked ball.

There was a opening for a team

and we were put into contact with

Steve and Elaine – and the start of decades old friendship began.

They had been regular players in several leagues

and agreed to join us and Steve and Chris.

Teachers at the H.S.

Then we were contacted by Deb and Tim –

Husband and wife

who also wanted to play – and their old team disbanded.

Along came Mike – who also was looking for a team.

And that is how “THE BEACH CLUB” co-ed volleyball team formed!

Everyone but us were former players for years

and we fit right in.

Tom Sherry Steve S. Elaine S. Deb M. Steve H. Chris H. Mike C. missing Tim M.

We played as a team for several years – and were competitive from the start.

The league had ex college players –

and players who traveled on weekends to tournaments all over Pa. & NYS.

It was a very good league – and if you did not pay attention

you could end up getting hurt.

We finished 3rd. in the upper bracket a couple times

Out of 16 teams.

and won the lower bracket!

Not bad for 40 year old players!

When we were young – we palyed volleyball

and today – time hop brings up our team picture

I wish I had more pictures to share from that time

somewhere there are pictures of Sherry & I

playing volleyball for the American Olean Tile Co.

in the Corporate cup.

But that is another story for a different time.

Now – we golf –

And – each year

each grade will name students

and present them with a award –

The award is for achievement – helpfulness – kindness – respectful – patience

Sort of a GOOD CITIZEN AWARD !

Foe the second year in a row –

Taylor was called upfront –

and presented the award !

Taylor – on stage in front of the assembly – being presented the MIGHTY MACAW AWARD

She had no idea – and her third grade class has nearly 230 classmates !

Although they are twins –

they are like day and night !

Cassidy is the busy one –

Taylor – she likes her alone time –

studying – reading – horses – animals.

Bode came to watch

She was so giddy – smiling – and surprised –

TWO YEARS IN A ROW !

Always that smile
Smiling

Her smile – her warmth – her always helping others.

She loves animals

I will always remember her

as the one who comes for a hug –

But also as the one who disappears –

to find her off somewhere alone –

Reading a book or writing a journal on horses !

Taylor loves riding

She is our little equestrian –

learning not only how to ride –

but care for them !

She writes books and journals –

researching – books from the library.

Her school essays are on horses.

Someday – I see her in competitions !

Always a smile – always horses

Yesterday she was recognized – walking upfront –

smiling – giddy –
