Papa’s World – Taking Maddy and Ella to Arlington Cemetary and then walking into D.C.

Ella – Maddy and Papa – waiting for the Metro to go to Arlington – this would be the beginning of our Washington, D.C. tour on foot.

Ella – Papa – Sherry and Maddy. We would get off at Arlington Cementary – tour all and see the changing of the guard.

At JFK Memorial with Robert E. Lee’s house in the background.

Maddy – Papa and Ella with a view of the D.C. area behind us – we would walk across the 14th. street bridge and begin our walking tour of D.C.

The granddaughters had always wanted to do this – and we said we would take them.

Ella and Maddy heading for the steps to the Lincoln Memorial – we did it all for the whole day –

catching the Metro back to our parking lot and car.

Papa’s World – Arlington Cemetery – National Cathedral- friends

GOOD MORNING

When friends from out of state visit – you TOUR D.C. !

Tom – Sherry – Jo and Paul
Clydes
Georgetown

First on their list – Arlington ad the Tomb of the unknown –

and the family grave site of JFK & Jackie !

We shall never forget

We decided to drive on this first day –

parking at Arlington National Cemetery!

Tomb of the unknowns
JFK and Jackie
grave sites

We did the tour bus –

where you get off and on !

The eternal flame
” ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU “

The grounds were quiet –

the birds were chirping

the solitude

Paul – Jo – Sherry

This was a must on their expectations !

JFK & Jackie

We explored all the family graves

then it was back on to the bus

and up the hill

stopping every so often

for explanations on different markers !

At the tomb

As we pulled in – the quiet was striking !

People walking –

going about in their silent ways !

The graves and markers
The tomb
Silently watching
The changing of the guard

It is a place to be quiet –

standing still

gazing upon a ritual

that has been going on since 1948

24 / 7

365 days of the year

THE TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER

We owe this all in gratitude

for our freedom

we have today
